If you need to request special permission for your student to utilize a shuttle in order to be transported to either Lawrence Central or Lawrence North, and you reside within Lawrence Township but not within your school boundary:

Please adhere to the guidelines for the shuttle request. Your information will be reviewed by your students’ grade level Principal and the MSDLT Transportation Department. If your request is approved, the transportation department will contact you within 5 business days. Shuttle permissions are reserved only for students participating in the Spanish Immersion program who reside within Lawrence Township, but outside of their designated school boundary. Special permission for shuttle access should be limited to hardship situations ONLY. Each shuttle request will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. They may be removed from the shuttle and responsible for their own transportation for the duration of the school year. 

1. The student must be enrolled in the district to apply. 
2. Transportation to and from MUST be a residential address. MSDLT Transportation policy states that we cannot transport from commercial daycares (i.e. Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, Kindercare, etc.), places of employment, and/or businesses, or other schools within the district. 
3. Approval is not guaranteed and is subject to but not limited to: Seat availability, no route deviations, current student discipline, Director or designee’s discretion, etc. 
4. Adhere to all MSDLT Bus Rules and Regulations. Please reference your child’s student handbook or the Parent’s tab on the MSDLT district website. 

Bus transportation is a privilege and is an essential part of the school day. In accordance with board policy 7.340, “failure of students to maintain proper conduct while at the bus stop, proceeding to or from the bus stop or while on the school bus may relinquish their privilege to ride the school bus and/or be subject to other disciplinary measures by the school.”

As a bus driver, you are responsible for the safe transportation of students aboard your route. In this position, you work when school is in session approximately 5.5 hours per day. A high school education or equivalent is required and we provide paid training to qualified applicants to obtain a Class B commercial Driver's License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement.

BUS DRIVER: As a bus driver, you are responsible for the safety and discipline of the students aboard your route along with the upkeep of the bus. In this position, you work when school is in session approximately 5.5 hours per day. A high school education or equivalent is required along with a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement.
We provide the following to qualified applicants:

• Contracted Drivers Earn over $30 per hour

BUS MONITOR: As a bus monitor, you are responsible for the safety and discipline of the students aboard the route. In this position, you work when school is in session approximately 4.5-5 hours per day. A high school education or equivalent is required.

BUS MECHANIC: As a bus mechanic, you are responsible for keeping the district’s school bus fleet vehicles in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program. This is a full time, 12 month position which requires a high school education or equivalent. Advance training is preferred. A Class B Commercial Driver’s License along with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement is required within 180 days of start of employment.

Once your student has been enrollee, the transportation office will contact the family of the new enroll to provide the busing information within 5 business days of the enrollment.

Routing typically takes 3 to 5 business days from enrollment and/or change of address. If 5 days have passed and you have not heard from the transportation department please give our office a call 317-423-8400. 

Our goal is to review and implement all stop change requests by Labor Day.

School bus emissions build up within the exhaust and must be cleaned out. This is done through a regeneration, which is when the soot is expelled through a self-cleaning feature on some of our buses. It is a temporary and automatic response to excess buildup in the exhaust system. It is perfectly normal and considered safe for students on board.
